The 3162 supports Facility Data Link (FDL) and Embedded Data Link (EDL) for non-disruptive in-band SNMP management of T1 and FT1 circuits. It can also provide SNMP management over frame relay with a connection from the 3162 COM or AUX port to a remote router port or external LAN adapter

The 3162 supports Paradyne's Embedded Data Link (EDL) for in-band SNMP management of remote DSU/CSUs. The EDL supported in the 3162 is fully compatible with ACCULINK 3160/64 DSU/CSUs

The ACCULINK 3162 DSU/CSU is a natural fit in Frame Relay networks, while consolidating voice channels on the same T1 access to save on network access charges. Remote management is provided through a router AUX port or an external LAN adapter.

The 3162 DSU/CSU offers two DTE ports on EIA-530 interfaces (optional V.35 and RS-422/449 cables available) and one DSX-1 port. The DSX-1 port can be used for drop and insert to support voice channels to a digital PBX. The 3162 supplies a COM port for connection to a PC for front panel emulation software, access to the user-friendly ASCII interface for local configuration and management, or connection to a printer. A COM port is also used for connection to a router port or external LAN adapter for connection to an SNMP management system

The AUX port is supplied for connection to an external LAN adapter for SNMP or TELNET, or for daisy chaining multiple 3162 DSU/CSUs to an external LAN adapter. A DB15 connector is provided for external clocking allowing for optimum network synchronization
