The EL-160 EtherLite Port Server connects 16 high-speed asynchronous serial ports to a 10Base-T or 100Base-T Ethernet network. This flexibility is ideal for environments with future migration plans from 10Base-T to 100Base-T Ethernet - no replacement unit is needed, saving you time, money and the added hassle. The ports are ideal for connecting modems, printers, terminals, and other RS-232 devices to your workstations and servers. EtherLite units are stackable, making it easy to add extra ports when needed.

The EL-160 EtherLite Port Server is not your typical Ethernet terminal server. The traffic from all 16 ports is serviced by a single TCP/IP session, compared to the conventional one-session-per-port method. The obvious benefit is less overhead at the host, and less traffic on Ethernet. The EL-160's ports appear as local TTYs under UNIX and as native COM ports under Windows NT. These locally administered, full "hardware-style" ports allow much greater control than standard terminal server ports allow.

The EL-160's ports are real serial ports, which means they don't carry the burden of telnet, rlogin, reverse telnet, and other complex network terminal server overhead. This makes the EL-160 simple to install and configure. Simply attach the units to twisted-pair Ethernet, load the device driver on a UNIX, Windows NT, SCO, or Java host, and set the IP address.

The EL-160 EtherLite Port Server will support super-fast speeds of 230K baud, which is perfect for handling even today's fastest modems. Hardware and software flow control are provided to effectively manage data flow, even at high baud rates. Its powerful performance, combined with an extremely low cost per port, give the EL-160 a price-performance ratio that can't be beat.
