Similar to 802.11b, this physical layer standard provides a throughput of up to 54Mbps. It also operates in the 2.4GHz frequency band but uses a different radio technology in order to boost overall bandwidth. Now applications like wireless video-streaming become possible for the first time.

Designed and developed to the IEEE 802.11g draft specification, the NETGEAR WG family offers customers speeds of up to almost five times faster than the widely deployed 802.11b WLANs found in homes, businesses and public wireless hotspots around the world. Since they share the same frequency (2.4GHz), this product is backward compatible with existing IEEE 802.11b products.
