As the first Gigabit product in the Vertical Horizon family to offer Layer 3 routing functionality, the Vertical Horizon VH-8G-L3 Gigabit Ethernet standalone switch provides 6 fixed-SC ports of wire-speed 1000Base-SX connectivity and 2 GBIC option slots for modular 1000Base-X uplinks. With configurable priority queuing per the IEEE 802.1p standard, the VH-8G-L3 supports time-sensitive applications and performs dynamic mulitcast filtering to prioritize traffic and improve LAN performance. The VH-8G-L3 standalone switch offers high-performance, full-featured Layer 2/3 Ethernet switching/routing in small to medium-sized network backbone applications, as well as high-performance direct end-station connectivity. Adding intelligence to the network, IGMP snooping allows support for multicast video and voice data, thus optimizing the flow of multicast traffic to ensure efficient utilization of the switch and network bandwidth. Ideally, the VH-8G-L3 is positioned as a high-performance standalone workgroup switch suitable for supporting network-intensive applications, high-volume transfers and may be successfully applied in wiring closet and desktop edge switching applications. By implementing IP routing as well as support for IGMP, RIP1 and RIP 2, the VH-8G-L3 provides a complete routing solution without sacrificing any of the services that are required in a growing network.
